| This from a collogue in Illinois
comes as an email.
This official
looking e-mail warns that there has been a violation of your bank
account, and that you should log onto the link to review the problem and
restore our access to the account.
The real problem is that the link takes you to
a site that LOOKS LIKE your bank's and asks you to enter your account number and password to
confirm your identity. This gives the thieves everything they need
to access your account for real.
NEVER click a link... Type in your bank's address
manually or call your bank and ask them directly about this.
A couple of
tip-off's were:
- I'd read about it happening.
- The subject line says Review your (Bank
name) "Informations"
- Appreciate was misspelled as "apriciate".
- There was no reference to an account
number.
- There were no telephone contact
numbers.
- The Bank confirmed that this is a
"Phishing" scam that you have heard so much about.
